Treat your pup to an advent calendar of local gifts and help Vancouver dogs

The 12 Days of Dog Advent Calendar promotes shopping local while helping dogs in Downtown Eastside stay warm this winter.

Want to include your pup in the festive fun this year?

This limited edition advent calendar designed exclusively for dogs is guaranteed to get tails wagging this holiday season - and also gives dog owners a chance to help local dogs in need.

PawSwap's 12 Days of Dog: Advent Calendar is filled with surprise local gifts for our furry besties to help promote shopping locally at a time when it is needed more than ever.

The calendar is available from now until December 4, and includes a round up of 12 mini products that any pup would love from some of PawSwap’s favourite local businesses - but no sniffing until Christmas!

Beginning December 14, dog owners can reveal their first mini product in this special mystery Christmas box of goodies, with surprise presents (including treats, grooming products, toys and more) until Christmas Day, so no furry family member has to miss out on the festive fun.

As the next month is crucial for local companies to survive, PawSwap is bringing exposure to 12 local pet businesses and hopes that by highlighting these companies and their products, it will encourage more people to choose local when gifting this year.

Dog owners can learn more about the companies behind the products by scanning a QR code on the top of their box which will reveal and highlight each company on their day of the Advent, making it easy to find out how to support them when holiday shopping.

“At PawSwap we are always looking for ways to take normal ‘human activities’ and make them inclusive of our four-legged friends which is why we wanted to create this super cute advent calendar for owners and their dogs to enjoy,” said Carly Geill, Marketing Manager at PawSwap.

“So many local companies and stores will be relying on the community to help them make it through these tricky times, and with the community of dog owners being so strong, we thought this was a perfect way to encourage shopping locally for your pup as well.”

To encourage dog owners to visit a local store that they may not have otherwise visited this year, free pick up is available from December 7-13 at 3 pet store locations - Spoiled Paws in Downtown Vancouver, Amore Pet Foods in Burnaby and Paw Street Market in Langley. Alternatively, shipping is available at a flat rate of $20.

Helping Vancouver dogs in need this winter

Another way this advent calendar is helping locally is by giving dog owners the option to donate a dog blanket or bed to the homeless community in Vancouver.

By donating $3 for a Spot Dog Blanket ($13 value) and/or $6 for an Unleashed Dog Bed ($28 value), provided and partially donated by Anipet Animal Supplies, dog owners can directly help local dogs in need this holiday season.

The PawSwap Team will personally hand out the donated dog blankets and dog beds on the Downtown Eastside, with any additional items not handed out on the day donated to BC SCPA's Charlie’s Pet Food Bank, a community-based initiative created to improve the lives of pets living in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
