Major recall of PetSmart dog bowl after Health Canada warning about lacerations

Health Canada is urging all pet owners who bought the bowl to return it immediately for a full refund.

Pet owners who bought a brand of dog bowl are being told to stop using it “immediately” after Health Canada warned the product could cause deep cuts.

The Top Paw Double Diner Dog Bowl from PetSmart - a silver, two bowl feeding set with a rubber seal around the rim - has been recalled nationwide after three reports of owners being cut by the bowl in the US.

In a recall and safety alert, Health Canada said the bowls - which feature a paw print on the front - have a rubber gasket on the bottom which can come off, “exposing an unfinished edge, causing laceration injuries”.

As of August 15th, there have been no reports of injuries in Canada, where 9,419 of the bowls have been sold between March 2017 and June 2021, according to the agency.

In comparison, 89,434 bowls were sold in the US.

In a statement, Health Canada said consumers should “immediately stop using the affected product and bring it to any PetSmart retail store to obtain a full refund.”

Pet owners wanting to identify which product they have can search for the SKU number 5270098 and UPC 73725775404 - both of which are located on a sticker on the underside of the bowl.
