Fun ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve with your dog as your date

Can't go out? No problem! Here's how to ring in 2021 in style with your pup as your date.

Hopes of a big New Year's Eve party may have been dashed this year, but that doesn't mean you can't make the most of having zero obligations to even leave your home! In fact, why not embrace it? How many of us have planned to get dressed up for a crowded night out only to wish for nothing more than to curl up in our pyjamas with our pup? Well, now is the perfect excuse!

As we countdown to the end of 2020 and look forward to 2021, you can forget about the stress of making NYE plans (yes, this includes co-ordinating Zoom parties!), and instead spend it how you really want to - relaxing with your precious pup by your side.

Check out our suggestions for how to celebrate NYE with your dog as your date and make it one to remember!

1. Have A Movie Marathon

Grab a blanket, your favourite snacks, cuddle up on the couch with your pup and queue up your favourite movies on Netflix for the perfect chilled out NYE.

The great thing about doing this with your dog is that you don’t have to argue about what to watch. Your pup will just be happy to be curled up beside you while you get to watch whatever you want with absolutely no complaints! Want to make it dog-themed? Check out our list of heart-warming holiday classics starring adorable pups that your four-legged friend will love as much as you!

2. Cocktails for you - Mocktails for them

Did you know you can make some dog-safe versions of your favourite cocktails so your pup doesn't have to miss out? We didn't either until we came across this fun blog post by Where's the Frenchie.

We loved this cocktail recipe and dog-friendly mocktail version...

The Bloodhound

1 strawberries + 1 for garnish ¾ oz. dry vermouth ¾ oz. sweet vermouth 1 ½ oz. gin ice

Method: Muddle the berries in the bottom of a glass then mix in the rest of the ingredients.

Dog Mocktail: Refreshing and sweet, you can make a dog-friendly version with just water and muddled strawberries!

3. Whip up some Dog-Friendly Treats for your pup to enjoy

If you want a quiet night in with just you and your dog – great choice by the way – why not have a dog treat baking party for the two of you? There are hundreds of recipes online for dog-friendly treats and recipes - so while you have your nibbles and drinks, they don’t have to miss out! In fact, we made our own list of 6 of the best homemade dog treats to make for your pup - and they are all super quick and easy!

4. Make a New Year’s resolution list for you and your dog and read it to them as the clock strikes 12

A new year is a fresh start and let's face it, we all need one after the year we've had!

Make a list of things you’d love to do with your dog in the new year that you haven’t got around to doing yet and as the clock strikes midnight, read it aloud to them.

It’s a cute way to start making plans for 2021 and you’ve promised your pup, so you can’t go back on your resolutions this year!

(If one of your resolutions is to get more active with your pup, try downloading the PawSwap App to find all the dog-friendly hikes and trails in your area. You're welcome!)

5. Get into bed, snuggle up and kiss your pup at midnight!

At the end of any day, there is nothing better than getting cosy in bed and cuddling your dog. So, we literally can’t think of a better way to start the New Year than doing exactly that!

And the big New Year’s kiss? Give it to someone you know will love you unconditionally for the rest of their lives – your precious pup! They deserve it after all!

We hope you have a great New Year’s Eve!
